VM540ML AUDIO-TECHNICA CREPLACEMENT FOR AUDIO-TECHNICA (AT-440MLA AT 440MLA) AT440MLA CARTRIDGE
- AT440's Provenance of Excellence: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 Editors Choice Award The Absolute Sound March Issue 231, 241, 251, 261, 271, 281.

With the formidable VM540ML phono cartridge, Audio-Technica has replaced and superseded—at a more affordable price—the highly regarded AT440's (retail: $390.00) musical excellence that rightfully should be compared with moving magnets costing up to $500. Yes, it is that good. The Audio-Technica VM5440ML's excellence lies in the suitable employment of advanced designs uniquely available to Audio-Technica because of its rich technical history and production capabilities:

Audio-Technica's Vector-Aligned Dual Magnet design, which uses two tiny magnets to achieve ideal geometry and low magnet mass, for excellent channel separation and extended frequency response.

The Audio-Technica VMN40ML's MicroLine stylus produces more accurately rendered high frequency response with less wear and distortion than elliptical or conventional linear contact styli. The small curving rate of the MicroLine stylus enables it to track and playback the inner part of the record groove that other styli can hardly maintain. Also the curving rate of the MicroLine stylus does not change until the stylus is almost worn unlike that of conventional styli which increases as they are used. Accordingly, the MicroLine stylus has a much longer average playing life. It plays better, longer.

Carbon Fidelity is a bargain!

I’m not even going into details about how much money (thousands) I’ve spent on different phono cartridges with exotic stylus. Comparatively, the Carbon Fidelity CFN3600LE Stylus is an incredible bargain. Tracks very well, low surface noise, zero IGD and best of all sounds terrific. You really can’t go wrong!

Excellent sound quality

Life changing

I wish I was being dramatic
I didn’t want to pay for a new record player for my Billie Ellis vinyls
But I can listen to the songs clear as day now with this!! Okay, it skips sometimes as you would expect
But cheaper than getting a couple hundred dollar record player

Very nice upgrade.

I've had this for over 6 months, and I can report that it has much better bass, and treble than the original. Everything is very clean and detailed sounding. A few notable examples. I recently ordered Eva Cassidy Live Blues Alley 25th anniversary, 180gram, 45RPM. The soundstage is absolutely amazing. It is on the same level, if not surpasses MoFi Eric Clapton Unplugged SACD. My sister gifted me the soundtrack to Sinners on 180gram vinyl. I actually heard the soundtrack before I saw the movie. I didn't know vinyl could support so much bass. My room becomes fully pressurized with that soundtrack, backed by a SVS SB3000. Last would be Miles Davis Kind of Blue. I have this on 200gram 33/3RPM and MoFi SACD. I can hear tape hiss on both, and both sound very much the same. SACD wins on floor noise, but really not by much. My vinyl copy is also crazy clean sounding, but sonically sounding, they sound so close.
